Listen: Galactic’s new song “Dollar Diva” | Consequence of Sound ⇢

In the grand tradition of jam bands, acts such as Phish, moe., and Widespread Panic serve as the benchmark for wayfaring road warriors. But there’s another, slightly less prominent group that’s been just as prolific for just as long: New Orleans jazz-funk band Galactic. Since forming in the early ’90s, the quintet has played countless shows, reguarly alongside the likes of The Roots, B.B. King, The Allman Brothers, Aaron Neville, and Living Colour’s Corey Glover. (Glover’s since taken on a regular position as vocalist). Add on to that a new album nearly every year — most recently 2012′s Carnivale Electricos – and it’s clear Galactic are profoundly vital to the jam band culture.

Galactic return to The Pageant March 6th.

Papa Emeritus II succeeded Papa Emeritus at the conclusion of phase one in the year of 12, and the Nameless Ghouls joined him under the unholy church’s current moniker Ghost B.C.—the “B.C.” is silent when spoken aloud, please remember that. The name is also phonetically written [go?st]. Their rituals demand reverence and praise, fortified through a delivery of sweetly satanic melodies, snaking distorted riffs, and vaudevillian keyboards. The world’s introduction to the troupe, the year of 10’s Opus Eponymous, closed with “Genesis”, a foretelling of the Antichrist’s coming. He is here now on INFESTISSUMAM and shall be treated accordingly.

paths, no boundaries or steps to follow, SLAYER assaulted
the world with its new hybrid of metal and punk. Heavier,
faster and darker than the rest, Slayer set the new standard
which all others continue to follow. Slayer - Tom Araya/bass
& vocals, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman/guitars, and Dave
Lombardo/drums - is the band that other heavy acts are
measured against, defining not only a genre but an attitude.
Since Day One, Slayer has mirrored the turmoil and aberrations
of our society. Probably as much, if not more than any
other like-genre artist, Slayer’s songs speak to the ongoing
social, political and economic disorder that others - like the
mainstream media - gloss over or completely ignore. For nearly
three decades, Slayer’s onslaught of sheer brutality has
proven them to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the

ON SALE FRIDAY 1/24 AT 10AM!Saturday, April 26Slightly Stoopidwith TBA$22.50adv/$25dos • All Ages$2 Minor Surcharge at DoorDoors 7pm / Show 8pmWith more than a decade of making music together, the members of Slightly Stoopid have perfected one of the rarest and most valuable skills a band can develop: the art of the stealth groove, that knack for quietly, almost innocently, sliding into a composition, and utterly lassoing anyone within earshot by mid- song. That’s where the band has come to reside, musically: deep in the pocket, that ever-elusive, funky trench where a band can entrance an audience, hypnotize it and hold on to it until the set or CD is finished. Built on a bedrock of nasty, oceanic slabs of dubby bass, meditative vocal harmonies, rock-steady guitar licks and tightly syncopated percussive rhythms, Slightly Stoopid illustrates a case study in underground success, steeped in years of hard touring, an improvisational business model, and a creative process that continues to unwind and push the envelope of a new jam-based genre the band helped to create.

“There’s a certain uneasiness to the Toadies,” says Vaden Todd Lewis, succinctly and accurately describing his band—quite a trick. The Texas band is, at its core, just a raw, commanding rock band. Imagine an ebony sphere with a corona that radiates impossibly darker, and a brilliant circular sliver of light around that. It’s nebulous, but strangely distinct—and, shall we say incorrect. Or, as Lewis says, “wrong.” “Things are done a little askew [in the Toadies],” he says, searching for the right words. “There’s just something wrong with it that’s just really cool… and unique in a slightly uncomfortable way.”
