By now, the peripatetic trail etched out by Portugal. The Man is well documented. The band’s nomadic path snakes down the Cascades, starting first in Wasilla, Alaska (yes, the very same city whose identity has been hijacked by a certain celebrity politician, one who we shall not mention again here), and then eventually settling in amongst the puddles and monochromatic haze of Portland, Oregon. There were Iditarod-racing parents, wooden cabins tucked deep in the woods, and the sort of upbringing that skews the very notion of convention. But let us end that chapter of Portugal. The Man’s lore and move forward.
That is the Portugal. The Man of then, In The Mountain In The Cloud is the Portugal. The Man of now.

Something in the Water: A Saint Louis Rockumentary looks back at the unique set of circumstances that electrified the classic rock music scene in St. Louis in the late 60s and early 70s. The exclusive HEC-TV documentary connects the influence of radio and concerts such as Superjam and the Mississippi River Festival (MRF) with musicians who were influenced by the likes of Chuck Berry and Ike Turner. Featuring rare interviews, archived MRF concert footage and photos from the musicians themselves, Something in the Water is a funny, honest and unique account of “ground zero for rock and roll,” as told by those who played a major role in the emergence of classic rock in St. Louis.
Among the people interviewed: Rich Dalton; Mark Klose; David Grafman (Shelly’s son); Mark Boatman (Head East); Roger Boyd (Head East): Pat Liston & Danny Liston (Mama’s Pride); Steve Scorfina (Pavlov’s Dog); Supe Granda (Ozark Mountain Daredevils); Lyle Ward (director of MRF at SIU-E); Ron Elz; Bob Heil; Steve Schankman; Devon Allman; Mike Zito; and Joe Edwards.

Gogol Bordello’s Trans-Continental Hustle, the group’s American Recordings debut, is perhaps the most ambitious undertaking in the group’s already remarkable decade-long career and it’s the result of an inspired, year-length collaboration with famed producer Rick Rubin. Gogol Bordello is arguably the hardest working — and hardest rocking — group of our discordant new century, maintaining a touring schedule and an onstage energy level that would send the average combo running for the emergency room. While putting out several critically acclaimed Gypsy Punks and SUPER TARANTA! albums, the intrepid band has literally traversed even the farthest corners of the globe, building a substantial world-wide fan base via gigs and festival appearances throughout Eastern Europe, South America and the Middle East, along with stops in Australia, Western Europe and in their adopted U.S. homeland. Their encounters and adventures, as well as the band members’ own immigrant histories, fuel the subversively upbeat story-songs on Trans-Continental Hustle. Front-man and lyricist Eugene Hutz spins out scenarios that are, by turns, hilarious and heartbreaking — from the outsider experience of gypsies in his native Ukraine to the struggles and celebrations of Brazil’s favelas. It can be said that Gogol Bordello has been representing the voice of all minorities all at once, a voice that comes from a real, poetic and deep place. Along the way, Hutz looks for common threads while embracing each of his character’s defiantly unique identities, all of which reflect some facet of the frequently flying bandleader himself.

City and Colour’s new album The Hurry and the Harm is set to be released on June 4th. The first single Thirst “is shocking in its honesty as it depicts the gritty pain of heartbreak among bluesy yet dramatic beats.” says Paste Magazine.

If you want to get to know AARON LEWIS, just listen to The Road. On his first full-length album, the Grammy Award-nominated, multi-platinum singer, songwriter, and guitarist tells one story after another. Echoing traditional country, some of those tales are hilarious and heartwarming, while others are pensive and personal. Nevertheless, they’re all equally powerful, vibrant, and unforgettable. For Lewis, The Road continues to wind and surprise like it always has.

“I just wanted to make an honest record.” So says Dallas Green, otherwise known as City and Colour. He’s not really talking about confessionals (though that might happen, too) but truthfully incarnated music: organic songwriting, natural process and sincere moments captured in the studio. Captured—not manipulated. For his fourth LP, The Hurry and The Harm, Green not only wanted to present an honest album, but an honest version of himself. To do so, he had to leave some things behind, confront others and let the rest simmer.

Why, Bry?
Kevin Smith takes you on a terrifying journey inside the life and times of his best friend, Bryan Johnson (aka, Beard-Guy from AMC’s COMIC BOOK MEN). Squirm with delight as Big Bry horrifies Kev and the audience with tales of deviltry and debauchery in the Jersey ‘burbs!
To our most beloved hometown fans:
As a band tours as much as we have, a strange thing happens. You find yourself in this sort of rootless, nomadic existence, and your home becomes a hotel room or a bunk in a tour bus, maybe even a futon in a smelly van. You live out of a suitcase and the high point of the week might be a dressing room that has a shower. In the maelstrom that is touring, there are those certain cities that stand out. For us the highlight of any tour is always the St Louis show. That’s when we finally feel like we are home. We look forward to the St Louis date of any tour the way a kid might look forward to Christmas; with anticipation and excitement. There is nothing like a hometown show.
We, the members of Story of the Year, would like to thank the city of St. Louis, MO for over ten years of unwavering love and support. From the amazing folks at 105.7 the Point, to the St Louis Cardinals, to the venues & promoters, to the local bands, to our beautiful fans- we have a fierce loyalty and appreciation for a city that was the first to embrace us and ultimately stick with us through good times and bad. What better way to say THANK YOU than a special blow out show at our favorite venue in the country: THE PAGEANT!
We are going to perform a special, extra long concert, and play every fan favorite from every damn record we’ve put out. We are going to play songs that we haven’t performed in years, or ever. We are going to dance. There will be surprises. People will get pregnant. We are going to play until we throw up. It’s going to be a ridiculous good time.
St Louis, let’s make this a night to remember. And to our many out of town fans, if you find yourself on a road trip to St Louis on June 8th, know that in our eyes you are family as well.
Endless thanks and love,
Story of the Year.
